5 COMMON FITNESS MYTHS YOU THINK ARE TRUE
In the struggle to get FIT, we are all surrounded with a lot of myths, theories and half-truths like when to train, how much to eat, what to do to get a flat tummy - and many more fitness myths which can be quite misleading for a beginner.
As a Bodybuilder who has been in the fitness world for some years now coupled with a lot of research, i hereby write this article to tell you what you need to know - plain truth of the most common myths in the fitness world.
Now, let's begin!
MYTH 1 : YOU HAVE TO WORKOUT ONLY IN THE MORNING.
Fact : You don't have to worry about the time. You can have your workout any time. The time doesn't really count but what matters most is the regularity of your workouts - how often do you workout.
The main advantage of exercising in the morning is that you are free for the rest of the day doing some other things without having to worry about hitting the gym again.
MYTH 2 : YOU SWEAT MORE, YOU BURN MORE.
Fact : The amount of sweat you release from your body is not directly proportional to the pounds of flesh (body fat) you burn. The rate of metabolism is quite different for individuals. You sweat more during a hot period than when working out in a cold weather.
MYTH 3 : HAVING PAINS MEANS YOU ARE DOING GOOD
Fact : I'm sure you are quite familiar with the famous saying "No Pain, No Gain" and you're probably thinking that having pains all the time means you're progressing.
I say No!!!
You don't judge your fitness progress by the pains you get from working out. The pains might be as a result of poor forms or improper workout routine. You have to check out a professional for consultations when having pains all the time.
MYTH 4 : DON'T WORKOUT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH
Fact : It is a known fact that the body and muscles need a constant supply of energy to function properly during and after workouts either for muscle-growth or fat-loss.
According to a new study published online in the British Journal of Nutrition, you burn more fat when you hit the gym before breakfast. You just must not skip water when working out.
MYTH 5 : CARBS ARE BAD FOR YOU
Fact : You must have been informed by most trainers that the only macro-nutrients you need for muscle growth is protein.
But hey, don't be deceived.
While protein may be responsible for the repair and building of muscle tissues, your body needs carbs for energy supply.
When the body has a low amount of carb available for use, it converts the excess protein into an energy source thereby making it difficult also near-impossible for muscle growth.
Do you know that Fruits and vegetables contains carbs? Incorporate them into your diet for optimum results. Eat only healthy non-refined and non-processed carbs. Grains e.g Oats and foods rich in fiber are a great source of carbs.
